build details...
The flood holes, were ground open using a dremel grinder..a false pressure hull was added along with appropriate piping ...the kits missing torpedo doors were scratch built, in using a metal punch to cut plastic discs, and lining them with evergreen strip....the deck gun was tweaked using wire and putty. various cables, hooks and valves, that were added to the gun using references through the detailing to keep on track...the wintergarten was detailed by virtually scratch building the binocular mast, the periscope mast had wire stays added....the acoustic deflector cables were added to the periscope, using armature wire......compasses were added using Waldron aircraft gauges and 5 minute epoxy....

...main hatch had a wheel and pulls added as per references...the wooden strips surrounding the wintergarten were first primed with Humbrol linen..left for 5 days ....added an acrylic clear-cote....washed with burnt umber oil paints.....the flack gun was completely scratch built using aluminum pipe for the main gun ...brass rod inserted for the barrel..the muzzle is drilled out solder that I placed in my dremel and used a #3 x-acto blade to machine the solder into a cone.....the railings had safety clips added....the communications masts were added using aluminum pipe bent to fit...the rear torpedo loading tube is shown in the raised position and is CMK resin kit....the boat represents U 565 which started in the N Atlantic then was re-assigned to the Med, where she was sunk by Allied medium bombers off Crete.

Hi Jim Sorry for replying only now - but yesterday had a long Lady Lex Feature to read! Your U-boot looks very good, I like the subtle weathering, clean constructions and especially the natural look of the flag. The presentation also is good, although I have some doubts on the red color of the torpedo warhead... Congratulations Rui

Thanks Rui, The torpedo came with the CMK kit and it was their recommendations that the warhead be red as per their colour diagram. I altered the tip to correspond to photographs I had from the book "U boats:raiders of the deep".The flag is actually from the kit.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Its really my first attempt at doing a writeup or talking pictures for that matter. I took about a year to build her,and yes,the stand was made for the model.
