Subject HMS Hood 1941
Kit Trumpeter 1/700 HMS Hood
Etched from GMM generic fret for British BB's.

This was the second part of a commission to build a Bismarck and a Hood both in heavy seas. As I didn't had a picture as a guide this time I used my imagination to create a very dramatic scene. The Hood had a reputation of a very wet ship so I felt like adding a bit extra water as she is just coming in and out of a wave. I didn’t super detail, however the kit has very nice details on its own and with a bit of etched it gives a very convincing rendering of the real thing. The sea was created with silicone which was shaped with wet finger and then painted dark blue. The water again is transparent silicone which was painted selectively with tones of white and light blue but also left in parts to its original translucent hue.

That is probably without a doubt the most realistic scene of that type i have ever seen rendered. The translucence of the water as you stated is incredible. Simply to say "well done" is an understatement. I would hope that you hung on to the project long enough to show it in a show and earn best of show honors as I honestly cannot but think not much could top this sort of rendering for those that know anythng about what they are seeing.

Excellent atmosphere! The water looks really good! I wouldn't have the balls to try something like that for fear of ruining a well built model!

Thank you all for your comments.Peter, i dont have with me either as they were both commissions.Actually i dont have with me a single finished model right now.As i am moving to Greece for the foreseeable feature i made a promise to myself.Since i ll be in my own house, for every commission i take ,and provided i don't have that subject in my collection already, i ll built two at the same time.That way i ll make sure one will stay with me forever, and i wont be so sad as i am now.Sure money is good but in 5 or 10 years time money will prop wont be there but my models will.Oh well time for some holidays before the winter season starts!!
