Denmark Strait Battle, a diorama...

  • move
"MSW crew-mate Augusto Martinez (rea00cy) sends in his first submission, a very action packed diorama depicting the HMS Hood and the HMS Prince of Wales, in distress, in this MSW feature!"

This is my diorama of that fateful morning of May 24th, 1941 at late 6:01 AM. HMS Hood is from Airfix, in 1/600 scale and HMS Prince of Wales is from Revell Germany, in 1/570 scale.

Attention was focused on the special effects (fire, smoke, guns firing, shell plumes, water splashes and sprays) to capture the atmosphere of that event.

A very brave attempt to capture fire and smoke within a diorama, I cannot quite remember the name of the ship or person - however this diorama was actually lit with LCD so the fire looked cookingly good. I can see you've had a very good look at explosions and how that crack of lighening appears within the big BANG for that fleeting moment, I would like to see more pix, and if you're forgive me for saying, by your photo's you seem concerned in showing the whole diorama, whereas with something like this, parts of the ship on fire erupting into flame and smoke, another angle showing very much the same and leave the rest to the imagination of the viewer, I am quite sure people will ask for more pix. Very nice diorama, shock waves also good, okay enough already I'm going ---------------------------- 1st class work mate !

Very impressive work. One can only imagine the terror of being on the receiving end of a barrage from Bismark. Great job on the diorama. Thanks for sharing

Dramatic!!!...but why is HOOD doing a wheelie?

A most interesting interpretation of the Hood's destruction employing some classic kits of the Hood and Prince of Wales. The tortured water is practically alive and the shell splashes are suitably menacing. The fire and smoke effects are dramatic, and the production of fire rings from the POW's secondary battery are novel indeed. The multi-engined aircraft at low level near the Hood is a mystery, however? I am working a Hood destruction scene myself and I know how particularly challenging her fatal blast is to depict, given the nature of her conflagration. This diorama is most instructive. --Karl

ALEC [quote]......I would like to see more pix, ...YOU'LL SEE MORE AT MSW.COM SOON, INCLUDING THE WRECKED SINKING PARTS OF THE HOOD UNDERWATER... and if you're forgive me for saying, by your photo's you seem concerned in showing the whole diorama, i'M NOT HIDING ANYTHING, JUST SELECTED A REPRESENTATIVE GROUP OF PICS OF THE DIORAMA, FROM ALL FOUR SIDES!............ I am quite sure people will ask for more pix. IF AFTER SEEING THOSE AT MSW.COM YOU OR ANYBODY ELSE'S CURIOSITY IS NOT FULLY SATISFIED, JUST ASK AND i'LL WILL TAKE SHOTS FOR THE ANGLES/PARTS YOU WISH, MY FRIENDS KARL: ACTUALLY THERE WAS A R.A.F. SUNDERLAND PLANE ROAMING OVER THE SCENARIO AT THE TIME OF THE BATTLE. THAT'S WHY..., BUT LATELY I REMOVED FROM THE DIORAMA SINCE I DIDN'T LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKED; IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FLYING AT MUCH HIGHER ALTITUDE THEN.... TO ALL: THANKS FOUR YOUR KIND WORDS, FELLOW MODELERS, I'M GLAD YOU LIKE IT! PS; SOMETHING I WOULD LIKE TO REMARK. THERE ARE NOT TWO BUT FOUR SHIPS SHOWN ON THE SET OF PICS I SUBMITTED TO THIS SITE. LET'S SEE IF SOMEONE IS ABLE TO NOTICE THIS FEATURE!
