USS Illinois - BB7

USS Illinois...

USS Illinois (BB-7), the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for the 21st state, was a battleship, the lead ship of her class. Oddly enough two out of the three ships named for Illinois were never completed. The first was laid down in 1864 and broken up before being launched in 1872.

BB65 was also broken up prior to being launched. A full scale mock up of the Illinois was built for the 1893 Columbian Exposition, at Chicago, Illinois.

The Project...
My latest build, the excellent Niko Illinois. The ship was built out-of-the-box, with the only additions being caenis line and stretched sprue rigging and a Tauro flag. I used Floquil paints. This was another excellent Niko offering that contains everything needed to build a beautiful model, including photos etched details and railings!

That's a sharp looking battleship, Bob. I appreciate the crisp two-tone paint scheme and the maddeningly delicate rigging in 1:700! --Karl

This is one of the two ships I want to build. The 350 kit is nice, but the 700 I can afford a little easier. I kept the pohots in thier original size for reference. Now I just need to get off my rear and get my new ship building bench ready.

Hi Bob! Sharp as usual with your works! Very neat and tidy! I really appreciate your successes with the Niko models (after my failure with USS Texas) Congratulations! Cheers, Rui
