I have been researching this topic, on and off, for years now, I have found tons of pictures, but not enough to build one. In case you don't know what I am talking about, skimmers are the small motor boats used by the Navy. I have also seen them called "Boston Whalers" but I am not sure if that is correct. Does anyone have any reference information or can point me in the direction of some that would be enough to scratch build one of these little boats? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Gunny

Hi Andy,

I remember seeing something about the US Navy using these boats. I'll check my references when I get home tonight.

Thank you for the welcome. I have been lurking about for some time but when I saw the campaign start up on one of my most favorite subjects (Brown Water Navy/Navel Specail Warfare) I had to join up. I really want to do something different then the usual subjects, PBR, "Mike" boat, etc. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I just want to do something different and this actually will tie into one of my other favorite subjects, but I don't want to give the store away, yet.

So like I said, any help would be appreciated. I hope to get to know all the other "boatguys" here.

Andy,

Look here, the Boston Whaler web site, at the "sport" boats.

Thanks for the information Gator. I have to wonder though if the specs on the current model are that close to the ones built in the 60's.

Wow Gator, just the kind of thing I was looking for. I think that this gives me enough dimensions that, with the different photos I have, I can get started. Thanks again for your help.

Still, if anyone else has anything, every little bit helps.

Howdy fellas,

As Frank would say on 'Everybody loves Raymond'......"Holy Crap!!"

Anyone who goes out on patrol in a skiff like that, with armament {or lack of} like that, with absolutely no cover like that, should be towing another skiff directly behind them.....to carry the sheer size and weight of their weuvo's.....seriously.

Tread.
