Heya, Folks,

As I've got the 1/72 Trumpeter LCAC on order I was wondering what small, non-time-consuming improvements I could make...

I read somewhere that each of the propeller's "drive shaft" extends into the two power plant structures on either side of the boat. Thus, I would guess you could see the props' drive shaft through the mesh screens. Apologies if "drive shaft" is the wrong terminology --- "axel" and "hub" were the only other words I could think of.

Does anyone have any close ups of this area where you can see how far forward they extend? Also curious about the interior colors of these structures.

Thanks!

Regards and Aloha,

Johnny B.

Hiya, Kenny,

Thanks a bunch for the link!

Been through about 90 pages on the Navy site. Alas, no luck yet on any close-up photos showing how far forward those prop shafts extend. Guess this just ain't a sexy area of the craft ta photograph!

That being said, I did find a bunch of other great pictures which will be helpful when I build the kit so

I'll just keep on huntin' for photos or info on the prop shafts...

Thanks again, Kenny!

Regards and Aloha,

Johnny B.

Thanks again for the help, Kenny.

PS Got my LCAC today --- might try to start on it if I don't pass out on the couch first.

Have you thought about a crew for the LCAC ?

Thanks, Alec!

Yep. Been thinking about crew... I've got a set of 1/72 Hobby Master seated Modern pilots --- might try to get rid of the oxygen masks and plop a couple inside the command deck.

Also planning on purchasing the CMK US Pilots Vietnam set, which has a pilots in flight suits and helmets that I might be able to use as deck crew with some (hopefully) minor modifications...

I'm open to any other suggestions for crew, Alec!

Other than that, I might replace a few railings with brass wire and add the propeller shaft, along with the non-skid to the deck... Probably going with the Mr. Surface stippling approach as I know I'd screw up the sand paper!

Also going to have to figure out what to do for the hooks and other securing hardware for the vehicles on deck...one problem at t time, though!

Thanks again, Alec!

Hi Havoc.

I came across your post about LCAC while searching the MSW site. I've started my own build of this 1/72 kit but unfortunately, it's been put on hold, overwhelmed with other smaller projects.

My suggestion for some crew for this craft, you can use some from Fujimi flight crew set, which have some appropriate poses and no need to modify, it also has one female figure suitable as a loadmaster.

With regards to the drive and propeller shaft, I've made a scratchbuilt shaft from some straight sprue tree about 5 inches long.

If you're looking for some references about LCAC, try having a copy of "The LCAC Military Hovercraft" by Steve Parker. It has some interesting cross section illustrations and 3D drawings. Very useful for doing modifications and details.

Hope this helps. Please post some of your updates, i'm still looking for some motivation to start my LCAC build again.

Regards and happy modeling.
