I haven't done a Capital Ship in a while and since this Vessel is my alltime Favourite, I thought why not. The Hull and Main Decks are together. The Centre Section is not entirely glued down as yet. My 350 Yukikaze from Hasegawa is in the background for a size comparison. More work and Photos are yet to come...Cheers Mark

Forgot to mention that I am using Trumpeter's upgrade Set for her as well as White Ensifn's P/E Set. Happy times are ahead.

Hull and Main Decks have now had their intial Painting with more detail work to follow. Anchor Chain has been sanded off and the Hawes Pipe as well as Chain Locker entries have been opened up to accept Real Chain when required. One catch with the Instructions to watch out for though, the Starboard Skegs have been mislabelled. Part D44 is in fact the Outer Mount while D42 is the Inner Mount. I picked this up too late and had to do some minor surgery. It pays to check and recheck. You learn all the time....Cheers Mark

Good work Mark

I am amazed at how quick she is coming on, I think it took me about 3 weeks to get to that stage on mine.

Keep the Pics coming

Thanks for the encouragement Simon. Main Deck Bulkheads are now in place. To say that the fit was below par is a gross understatement. The fit is woeful. A lot of Filling and Sanding is needed to bring these areas up to an acceptable standard....Not many Cheers Mark

Mark, I agree with you regarding the bulkheads, i had right fun getting mine in.

My build has stalled a bit, got about 75% of the way through opening the funnels up and adding something to the interior and have run out of steam

above is the completed after funnel, the fore funnel is opened out & I am was adding the baffles to the lower casing.

Your work is giving me the urge to get going again

Thanks

My pleasure Simon and thanks again for the complements. We could really confuse everyone and have Two Builds going on here at the same time. I am looking forward to seeing your Build of her as well.....Cheers Mark

The Main Bulkhewads are now in place and painted. She has now been attached to her Stand. A bit of a struggle but nowe getting somewhere....,

An Error was located on Trumpeter's Instructions. The Area circled is in fact a Hatchawy with a Canvas Cover. Trumpeter have moulded it as you see. This Area is the Rear Section of Hood's Boatdeck.....

The same Area on the actual Kit Part has been removed and hollwed out. The Hatchway has been squared off to accept the Hatchway Stairs and the Bracing for the Canvas Cover....

The Boatdeck has been placed to check Fitment. More to come soon...Cheers Mark

I built mine several years ago. The only thing I remember was the not so great fit of the lower (red) hull to the upper. I used PE with mine and the gun set, so I took quite a while like 2 months to do mine. Yours is coming along quite nicely

What kind of work did you do in the funnels Simon? Great work guys! One of my favorite ships. I built the Testors HMS Hood a LONG time ago. Loved the way her lines looked! Looking forward to some more updates!

Hi Sparky.

I have opened both funnels and casing up down as far as the shelter deck level, added baffles just above that, divide the trunking into six, this only goes as far as the bottom of the funnel propper, there is a small platform on this on the stbd side from which a ladder decends to the shutters over the boiler uptakes (in my case scribed on the sheleter deck level (A bit high, but i felt that was close enough for what can be seen) and another level ascends to the walkway around the funnel top

this shows the finished after funnel, just awaiting weathering & steam pipes.

I pretty much followed the AOTS drawings, which I am told are inaccurate, they show a cruciform walkway, but a couple pics i have seen tanked from the upper bridge looking aft only seem to show the athwartships walkway.

Also I have not cut away the molded vent screens on the casing below the funnels and replaces with the etched ones, as this would have meant scratchbuilding the uptake trunking, otherwise at eye level they would be see through. and as they are partially obscured by boats, 4" mounts etc I would not be too obvious.
