Hi All,
Anyone heard anything recently about the 1/35th Vosper offering from Italeri?

Based on the Italeri catalogue presented by Faller - the german distributor for Italeri - it is planned for September this year, but we know how flexible Italeri is in their dates:

Hi Al,
It would be worth taking a look. I don't know what would be seen through, different beast to the MAS, but I could be thinking on it

Now that would be a great blog: a Vosper with innards. BTW this isn't the same Vosper as the old airfix 1/72 Vosper is it? I seem to remember 4 tubes and and a bandstand with an Oerlikon in front of the bridge, ( isn't my memory playing up here is it?).
cheers,
Julian

Hi Julian,
I believe it's going to be MTB 73, a 1940's 72' boat, with 2 tubes, depth charges and a single Vickers tub, but I'll have to wait and see. There are good options for varous armaments as these boats got up-gunned later in the war.

Hello Julian, there is nothing wrong with your memory of the Airfix kit, I still have one in my stash and it is as you described. I don't know much about Vosper types, but I believe it was a larger boat than the one announced by Italeri. AlNow that would be a great blog: a Vosper with innards. Hi Guys,
Yes the Airfix (1/72nd) and Italeri (1/35th) are different boats with the Airfix kit a 1943-44 73 feet type I MTB and the Italeri kit being a 72'6" boat very similar to the 70 footers. Both the 70' and 72'6" were designed from 1940 and built 1940-1942.
According to the very good "Allied Coastal Forces vol II" book boat numbers for 72'6" Vospers are 57-66, 73, 75-98, 222-257 and 347-362. Most of these boats mounted two 21" torpedo tubes and the twin Vickers machine gun power operated tub amidships with some having single gas operated Vickers machine guns on temporary mountings. Some photo's in the book show boats mounting a single 20mm Oerlikon forward of the charthouse and others sporting two single 20mm's, one for'ard and the other in place of the Vickers tub.
I believe some Mediterranean based Vosper MTBs had their torpedo tubes removed and up to six captured Italian 20mm Breda machine guns were fitted. The Breda gun must have been popular as a number of MLs in the 'Med' and the Aegean had a couple mounted on the stern.
Then you have the US built Vospers with numbers 275-306 and 363-378 and there is a photo of MTB 378 in the aforementioned book showing a single 20mm for'ard and a manual twin 20mm amidships.
So, plenty of options for weapons fits and there just maybe the possibility of shortening the kit perhaps to do a 70 footer.................maybe.
Cheers,
Roger in Oz.

with just a wee look into modern Fast Attack Craft (I really like the USN's river SWCC boats).
