Could some one in the know, please give me a shove in the right direction for alternative colour schemes for the 72'6" MTB
I'm not a great scratch builder, but can get around small changes, New weapons are not a worry if they are kitted that is.

In the photo reference book with the kit there is a photo showing the rear of the bridge and the Vickers Turret. It looks much the same as the kited boat. You can just see the start of the number "25?" the interesting bit is that they are painted in scheme E. Would it be feasible to paint the Italeri version in this scheme with out upsetting people??

Hi Ian,

Page 76 of Allied Torpedo Boats show 4/5 alternative schemes for the Vosper.

Maybe AL Ross could post up the page.

Best to find a picture of what you want to build and post it up.

Cheers

That's just the problem, finding a picture.
What I want is an alternative boat number that relates to a 72'6" MTB of the same basic type/hull.
I want to do a boat in either scheme E or F.
Failing that It will be just another boring grey boat. What grey? would be a good question right about now.

VOSPER MTBs IN ACTION might be of an help to you. If you'd contact me at [email protected] - I have surplus copies of it.

Another book that COULD help is Lambert & Ross' ALLIED COASTAL FORCES as would Lambert & Brown's ALLIED TORPEDO BOATS.

Hi Ian,

Have you looked on IWM site? Also where do you want the boat to be based - Home or the MTO?

The Italeri kit is applicable, with provisions, to the following numbers: 73-98, 222-245,347-362 (UK built); 275-206, 363-378, 396-411 (US built). There were significant armament changes on many of these boats and at least three different schemes, so you need to determine which of each you want. This scheme is typical of the US built boats :
the colors being White, G45, B15.

This is MTB 86 in a variation of the standard pattern; Colors are the same as those above.

Here's MTB 224 in the standard scheme, but carrying 20mm guns.

Pick a number and I'll try to find you a photo.

Hi Alan,

Happy Holidays to you, too.

B15 is a dark blue-gray while G45 is a lighter blue-gray. WEM makes them in their Colourcoats line. Go here to see the color chips: http://www.shipcamouflage.com/royal_navy2.htm

@ Al Ross
Well I picked a number. MTB 234
Kind of hung up om that three colour scheme.
Looks like I will have to bite the bullet and Buy the Oerklion from AA though.
I was a place that was selling both single and Double units although being sold as 1/24scale, they did comment that the actual scale is 1/32-1/35 after comparison with drawings.
Does any one know them. you can see them here,,,
http://www.model-dockyard.com/acatalog/deans-1_24_Scale_WW2_Weaponry.html

This could open up a few more options...
Silly question, is there record of a British MTB being fitted with a German Quad AA gun. Now that would be different!

I don't know about MTB's mounting the German Quad 20mm. I should think the weight would be too much for the Vosper to handle. However, some Med based boats mounted a captured Italian Breda 20mm gun on the foredeck. The same type of gun mounted on the stern of a MAS boat. Al

OK. I have a couple shots of 234 and will post them. Also, I corresponded with her CO, Peter Dickens, years ago and he gave me some details you might find interesting.

Not exactly RN, but the US built Vospers acquired by the Italians post WWII did mount the Flakvierling in place of the twin 20mm aft of the cockpit. I can uupload a photo if you like.

English hull MTB410? American radar, german guns, I think I have seen that one.
Look forward to the photos/ info Al. Thanks
I folded and ordered the 20mm from AA, but they are closed until the 7th. So I have a weeks wait for my week holiday!!

At this rate, it would of been easier to do the 74 conversion for the Nazaire raid. That I can find pictures for!!

Thanks Al most interesting.
I can see that the Radar aerial needs to be moved and a few lockers placed differently.
I might have to pass on the dolphins, although a nice detail, just a bit small for my fat thumbs.

Thank you for you kind offer Garth, I had been on a shopping expo on Amazon, Your book was not available there so I will take you up on your offer.
While there, I ordered Allied Torpedo Boats. I tried to order a copy of Lambert and Ross' Coastal Forces, but they would not send it to Denmark??? Any one got a copy they want to sell on (LOL).

So now sitting with a 99% ready boat. Just waiting for the books, a pile of nuts and bolts and the single 20mm.
I could get on and paint the hull I s'pose.

I have been trying to find a web shop that has some of these wonderful figures that amongst others, Al has posted pictures of in his thread.. There are some from U-models, but I can not find them on their web site...? Any ideas?
Also the figures from Wee Friends seem to have gone AWOL.
Have they stopped doing them? Have you all bought them all???!!

I'm in no rush for them, but at a tenner a pop, it would be nice to be able to buy one now and again and build up a full compliment. (well of the deck crew).

Hello Ian, I've had no trouble getting the 'Wee Friends' from Friendship Models, that other Ian has been very prompt in sending them when ordered. The U-models website does leave a lot to be desired. I've been able to order their figures from "The Red Lancers" shop, located here in the US. I had tried the other distributors listed by U-models, but had no luck. Al

Hi Al
I had a look in the shop you named, but could not find them there either!
I dare say they will turn up somewhere.
Ian M

PS just sent a mail to Italeri asking if they will do the crew for this boat, as they have done them for all the others so far.
I also suggested that they might want to think about kitting the Brede, and other weapons in 1/35 that they produce as a part of another kit. Oh suggested that they could prbably sell quite a few kits of 20mm Oerlikon in both double and single versions.......Lets see what happens.

Ian, Italeri sells the Breda as kit No.6464, it comes with a mule and two Italian soldiers. I modified the mount and used it on my Vosper build. "The Red Lancers" just got those U-models figures in stock the day after Christmas. He might not have them listed on his website yet. Al

Hi Al
Cheers for that I will keep an eye open on Red Lancers.
Jer I know they have kitted the Breda, they also have a set with the breda and a 15cwt truck. I meant to write that they pack the breda alone as a kit, maybe together with a few bits to fill the box a bit...
Its not as if they would need to re tool, the kits are there they just need boxing....Hmm.

It would be nice if they did release it with the correct mounting for the Vosper. They also have a nice 20mm Oerlikon in with the new PT-109 kit. How about the two types of gun together, along with a couple of ammo lockers? Al

Ian, do a search on White Ensign Models website for 'Vosper' and your wishes may be answered.
