Looking fantastic Julian,

May I ask what paint you used . . . manufacturer and colours.

Cheers Kev

Great looking boat, Julian. Love the color scheme and the 20mm does make her look meaner. Wouldn't it be nice if Italeri modified and then re-released the Vosper kit, like they did with the Elco? Say as MTB 244 for instance, with the single 20mm forward and that twin 20mm mounting amidships. That would be one lean, mean, MTB. Al

Before I answer any of the kind reactions to the 234 build I would like to state my gratitude to Joe Hinds for providing the inspiration I needed for this model. Mr. Hinds passed away in 2012, I would have liked it if he had been able to see my rather humble rendition of his painting but ubfortunately some things cannot be.

Thank you Veniamin, I am grateful for the compliment, I am still very much impressed with your Gambier Bay build which is providing some very useful pointers for the 1/200 USS Hornet living in my stash,
Regards,
Julian

Thanks Kev, glad you like the way the 234 turned out. Of course, no problem as far as colours are concerned. The Hull is Tamiya plain jane matt white with Life colour navy blue for the camo patches. The black on the lower hull is Life colour weathered black. The weathering was done with Tamiya smoke and Vallejo smoke, ( the Vallejo being a more dirty brown colour), and AK slimey green washes, AK ship weathering tints and several different oil washes. No pastels, I absolutely hate the stuff be it in powder or stick.
The deck greys are both Tamiya acryllics, I'll PM the names and correct numbers when I get back to my workbench this weekend. Fpr the rest of the detailing I prefer acryllics and use Tamiya, Vallejo, Life colour, Humbrol and Citadel colours. I still have a large selection of Humbrol enamels but I seem to use them less and less. Finally I used some inks, printers gold ink is fantastic stuff and last but certainly not least Alclad metal colours and watercolours.

Hi Al, thank you for being one of the "pathfinders" with your excellent build. The twin Vickers guns wouldn't have looked quite so sexy without the gold trim I saw on your build.
Adding an Oerlikon would be a quick and easy update for Italeri but would also make it clear they are out for a quick kill. To imress us all I think they would have to go the whole hog now and go for a twin Oerlion with bandstand.
PM is underway to you, should answer your question,

Hi Julian!

This is one of most beautifully conceived, planned, and executed build demonstrations I've seen. The level of detail, creativity, and crisp modelling skill are wonders to behold. I hope you can make a series of these large scale craft.

Hi Julian,

Excellent build and finish. The Griffon Model PE set looks daunting, so well done there. It does add a lot of detail.

1st class job.

Cheers

Hey Julian, It has been a real great time following you on this build. Along with Warren, Daneil and Al, and all the others who came and went, it has been very helpfull planning my build following all the reff. material and all the freindly bantering back and forth gave me quit a few chuckles. Your build got me out of a rut in building and I've been working on and off on the Vosper since half of the parts got here. The P/E work you did was fantastic and enhances your boat by miles. If it was affordable on my budget I might have given it a shot. Your dust bin looks like you could just jump in and charge them up and cut loose. Just beautiful looking. Your cammo scheme and the weathering you did really brings it to life. A job well done and something to be proud of. bob d. P.M out to you.

Could I possibly tempt you guys and Italeri with a 'Fairmile D' . We've gone up to 115' long that's 6.5 ' longer than the schnellboot (2,2" at 1/35) but in its final form we have 2 x semi-auto 6 pounders, 2 x twin 0.5 MG (as per vosper), 1 x twin 20mm oerlikon, 2 x twin .303 Vickers K gun plus 4 torpedoes and depth charges if you want them. . . . that enough for you?

Cheers Kev
