Hi All,
What types (and calibre)of guns were mounted on PT boats during the course of the war? Any and all - even trial mounts.
TIA
Tom

Some boats carried a 60mm mortar for firing illumination rounds primarily, but also used for shore bombardment occasionally. There was a trial mount with six bazookas in one photo I've seen. The 109 boat carried a 37mm antitank gun on the full carriage (sans wheels) lashed to the fore deck. There is also a photo of one of these guns mounted on a field improvised tripod on the bow of one boat. Al

Everything but the kitchen sink. You are asking for a tome.

Extra twin 50's. Single mounted 50's and or 30's on the side armour shields. Extra Oerlikon 20mm sometimes combined with 50 cals on the same mount.

60 or 80MM mortars... the list is long and varied. As the war progressed they seemed to stick more and more on.

Early boats had the single 20mm and two twin 50 cals If you are looking at later boats you really need to check references. I'm building PT-490 its bristling with extra 50's and 30's and a brace of 20MM Oerlikons on top of the standard load.
