Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone! I hope the big man in the red suit was kind to you all!
Big news for the KGV! On the eve of 2020, she's
finished at last! Yep, you read it here first! After a long 5 years and 8 months, with two long intermissions I can at last raise the White Ensign and sign her off for active duty in the home fleet!
It seems that not many people have rigging references available, but Keith (Beefy66) did send through some scanned plans (thanks mate) and together with some photo references from the builder's model, the rigging is now completed. Here you can see blue tack being used to keep the Ezy-line taught while the super glue cures
No mounting point was provided at this location in the PE sets so I bent up some 0.5mm diameter wire and glued it on. A dab of AP507B from the hairy stick and it was good to go.
I made up this bracket from the kids' Duplo with the idea of adding the stringers up to the main run of rigging, but I couldn't get the tensions balanced so gave up that idea pretty quick!
Jack/Flag staffs-the last steps!
In the next month or so I will take some proper final pics and submit them for a photo feature in high res with proper background and lighting...
Until then, thanks go out to everyone for support, encouragement, information and staying tuned for this long project.
It's been a long road for sure, but at last I can say she's done! She's not perfect, and there are things I would do differently if I were to do it over (like using the Ponto's AM for example, or using stretched sprue for the rigging) but hey, live n learn
And would I do it over? Hm... Maybe, maybe not. Working with these older tooled kits comes with it's challenges, not the least of which is the amount of AM details that need to be added. Maybe something more "modern" next time
Now, it's time to go off and build some wing things from the stash and ponder what my next salty build will be...
