Hi everyone.

Would you reccomend hand painting the conning tower of my current build by hand and in sections?

Also, what color were the periscopes? Was the housing painted in a diiferent color than the periscope itself?

Thanks.

Hi Alex,
this is quite a can of worms you are opening here Expect a lot of answers to your question. I have reached a stage that I airbrush as much as I can. If I do brush paint anything, (the island on my Hornet build), I generally use Life Color paint as it dries in a very smooth layer.
Cheers,
Julian

Hi Julian.

I can imagine there will be quite a few answers. I have the Lifecolor Kriegsmarine sets (both of them).

Have a great day.

Be well.

Alex .... the periscopes in them U - boat were precision pieces and they were rising and going down . were a metal polished, that they were silvered and in his top part they were making up of dark gray generally. This age the part that was standing out of the water.

In my case ... I use Model Masters they work very well in my airbrushes .... but the set Life Color its cool!!!! In these zones forgotten the south these things are not obtained!!! Jejejej

Cheers Daniel

A comination of hand and airbrush, if not assembled yet.
Once assembled, it will be hard to get to some detail.

Periscope housing: same color as the tower.

Periscopes: metalic with dark gray almost black upper
portion. You can also do a mild wash on the metalic part
to tone them down a little.

This my rendition on one of my u boats.

Cheers,
Joe

Thank you Daniel and Joe.

I am leaning towards using Testors Black Metallic for the scope, toning that down with some anthracite grey and then hitting some spots and the tops of the scopes with some Humbrol metallic.

Joe: love your Laughing Sawfish boat.

Thanks.

Alex
