Hi all, I'm building one of Coastal Forces rather nice 71' 6" MGBs (77 or 81) I've been looking, until my eyes hurt, for references for the early 40mm mount used on the series one boats. Lambert's excellent drawings are of a slightly late variant with closed in left side. The kit gun, while a little gem, has, of course room for more detail. I would love to find a couple of clear shots of the 'plumbing'. How did the gun layer aim and shoot? Generally reference material, as I found for the Oerlikon mount on my Vosper, is really scarce! Can anyone help?

Fraser,
I don't know if this is any help, you haven't supplied what mark/model of gun you require, but here are a few links.

Thanks Tom, Yes I should have specified. It's a Vickers 2 pounder mkVII gun on a Mk XVI powered mount. As used on British Power Boats 71' 6" boats.
Cheers,
F

That's OK.
Not what you ordered, but very close:

Ta, looks like a Mk XVI to me, the XV was less closed in - oops Just noticed that I type XVI instead of XV....all gets a bit confusing a Mk?gun on a Mk?mounting and I have a feeling it varied boat to boat depending on availability... I think that the bulk of my modelling time is spent researching something or worrying about a detail...

The pic is captioned a being a Mk. XV. So it's spot on for you.

Although,

States that XVI was the mount for Coastal Forces

Great, isn't it. Good photos of the series one boats are scarce
linkname

Scroll down and on the left is boat 75, which appears to have the earlier XV mount. I contacted Michael Byard, but sadly he doesn't have larger images than appear on the page. One thing about this situation is that no one can easily say what you've done is wrong...
