Just coming back to modeling, looking at allied coastal warfare boats (PT, Vosper, et al..)

The 1/35 models are a tad too big for my space, I like what I have seen of the 1/48 PT kits, but am more interested in the English Channel/Med ops areas.

So, are there now good 1/72 models available, or is re-issues of the old kits from 50+ years ago? This scale would allow some dioramas to be able to be built and displayed in my current space.

Thanks for any info.

Hello, Jim.

Airfix makes a 1/72 Vosper, LCVP and an RAF Rescue Launch.

Revell's venerable 1/72 PT Boat is still out there as well as PE detail sets (I believe the White Ensign set is back).

Michael, thanks, those are the ones I knew about, but if the WE sets are available again, might go the PT-109 route. The PE kits still show Out Of Stock, but home page says all are again available, so I sent them a email.

Kev, thanks for the link. Prices are a bit steep, though if they come with all the items one would have to buy as PE and cast add-ons, that might make the price worthwhile.

Of course, I guess I could model whole squadrons and flotillas using the 1/600 items from these folks

Hi Jim,

I guess it all depends on how far you want to take it.

The Airfix Vosper leaves a lot to be desired, I've just finished a build here

Airfix ASR launch

Enjoy

I've pondered the RAF Rescue launch kit a lot. I've heard it's not up to today's mold standards but I think it's a very interesting subject.

Kev, Awesome builds of those boats. The Vosper underway looks great! Todd and I would love it if you'd consider sending us all the images you have of them so we could do a photo feature post of them.

I meant to say Coastal craft models do all the weapon systems as separate items. So you can use them as an AM set to improve a basic kit. I used a few bits on the above Vosper

Michael PM sent
