And just to show it with the skin on, here's a build Al did a few years ago:

Hey Al?
May I ask you a question about the 63-footers? My late-father (before he was assigned to the SC-699) once told me that - in Beaufort, SC - he rode out a hurricane on a 63-footer ... is that the type that he was referring to?

It may have been. There were a number of versions of it in service at the time.

Oh, ... cool. Thanks, Al. He also told me he was, for a while, the Cox'n on a 45-footer. Were those the ones which looked like a big cabin cruiser?

There were a number of 45' types in USN service at the time. Go here: http://www.maritime.org/doc/boatcat/index.htm#toc

Hi again, Al.
Thanks again, ...
I guess this is it: http://www.maritime.org/doc/boatcat/cat-0081.htm. He didn't say 45' Picket Boat, and since he rode out a hurricane in a 63-footer - it'd stand to reason it'd be a 45' rescue boat. Right?
