Im looking for the comparable colors for the RN paint colors used in 1943. The Dark sea gray and Gray, that would have been used on the HMS Warspite. For either Model Master or Tamiya

Thanks!

Hi AJ,

Using the Royal Navy's WW2 TLAR system (That Looks about Right) I use XF80 (RN Light Grey) for AP507C Light Grey, and XF75 (Kiire Arsenal Grey) for AP507B, Medium Grey.

For decks XF24 Dark grey works quite well.

Hope that helps

Cheers

AJ,

ready for a little confusion?

I prefer Tamiya XF 66 for 507 B, and a mixture of flat white XF2 and XF 66, 4 parts XF 2 and 1 part XF 66, for 507 C.

Cheers,
Jan

Im working on the Belfast next.

A507a (Dark grey),
B5 (Mid grey)
B6 (Blue grey),

what are good Tamiya equivalents for them?

Hi AJ,

As opposed to Si above, I'm going by the modified expanded TLAR-System, which servers the same purpose, only makes it a little more complicated.

So here's what I used for my Belfast (Tamiya colours):

507 A : XF 50 (Field Blue) / XF 1 (Flat Black) = 3 / 1
B6 : XF 18 (Medium Blue) / XF 2 (Flat White) = 1 / 5
B5 : XF 18 (Medium Blue)
507 C : XF 2 (Flat White) / XF 66 (Light Grey) = 4 / 1

Hull Red : XF 9 (Hull Red) / XF 7 (Flat Red) = 4 / 1

And that'S how it looks like, as compared to Snyder&Short paint chips:

and on the model:

Here's the link to my build a couple of years ago on MSW:

Hope that helps, it's a fine model and fun to build, enjoy your build!!

Cheers,
Jan
