Bismarck 1/200 with Pontos & Veteran add ons'

Hi! I may be mistaken, but it is a ship is referred to as she. Perhaps not in the case of Bismarck, unless it's named for Mrs. B.? )

Wow, seven pieces of decking, I would want to put down a wood deck just so I wouldn't have to deal with so many seams.
That is a lot detail from that Pontos kit, must have took hours to bend and install but is looks awesome.
After seeing builds using these Pontos kits I broke down and purchase my first on which arrived last week. Its for the Prince of Wales 1/350 kit. It has everything needed to dress the ship up. I can why these are so pricey. Pay twice more for the Pontos kit than I paid for the model.

Good Question, being a former Merchy it is a little unnatural for me to refer to a ship as He, everything I sailed on was definitely a She.
Almost all ships are referred to as She. In the case of Bismarck, there is an apocryphal story that Kapitan Linderman, when he fist saw his new command stated that the ship looked so powerful and menacing that Bismarck must always be referred to as "He".
It could equally a hang over from the Imperial German Navy, Kaiser Wilhelm II decreed all German Warships should be referred to as "He".

Normally I would agree, but in this case trying to handle a piece of decking that big.... The sections here were much more manageable, and they fitted.
It is a bit of a job, but the extra depth is this scale is really worth the effort.
On the face of it Pontos sets are expensive, however when you add up what it would cost to buy the contents separately, not only do they come out at quite good value for you get, there a few bits and pieces in there not available elsewhere. I have used their HMS Duke of York set, and was really good, the only weakness is the instructions, they are a little crowded. I find it is worth doing a bit of planning using these big sets.

some more progress, lots of little bits of etch going on the bulkheads.
Rebate for No.1 port 5.9" turret.
Section under No.1 port 4.1" mount, and unwanted portholes filled under No.2 5.9" rebate.
No.2 5.9" rebate detailed.
Vent louvres to go just fwd of the catapult.
In place, the door and box are nice additions for the rear bulkhead under No.2 4.1" mount, that has no detail on the kit.
Port side of the after section under way.
More when I have got the after section completed. Then these will be sprayed and fixed down. Air recognition markings will be done then. Quite a few differing opinions out there on when they were painted out.

Hi Mark,
Pontos etch is good quality, the detail is sharply etched and the fold lines are well done. The instructions for all these parts are very clear.
Good references are of course helpful, as the Bismarck did undergo a few changes between commissioning in August 1940 and sailing out in May 1941.

I do get what you're saying, some PE even recent stuff can be a pain to use, but this stuff is very good quality, and with the all in one sets like this you do get a lot of gear for your money, the best thing though is that all the etch / turned brass / resin / deck are designed to work together.

This weekends progress.
port side of the after section of the superstructure deck brassed up.
the port side all test fitted in place.
the starboard side has also been doe ready for paint.
sprayed and test fitted again.
all good.
A few bits and pieces that will need adding after detail painting.
Fire hoses.
The parts.
Under assembly.
a total of six have been built.
Lifebouys.
More soon.

All that PE really looked awesome to bad you have to paint it. Maybe you can give us a close up photo of how the PE looks painted, it looks to blended in to see in the published photo.
