Heya, Folks,

Just picked up the Revell 35th scale LCP (R)/UDT Boat for a good price on Ebay... It's obviously an old kit, but the only game in town.

I am hoping to portray the boat as a Pacific Theater craft --- anyone know if this craft served after Guadalcanal?

Without getting too involved --- I have a six month old and modelling time is minimal at best --- I was wondering what might be improved with a little extra effort...?

Would the older "scarf-ring"-type gun mounts have been replaced with the .30 cal gun mounts more commonly seen on the LCVP and LVT-(A) 1amtracs...? To say the kit scarf ring is minimal is an understatement --- would love to replace it with a mount from one of the Italeri kits...don't want to scratch build the scarf ring if I can get around it...

Thanks, folks!

Much Aloha,

Johnny B.

Hi Johnny,
I’m sorry but I guess I can’t be of much help . The only thing I can say is that I like this kind of boat and didn’t the Navy Seals use this craft (modified I guess) in Vietnam?
Hope someone else will be of more help.

Good luck

Hiya, Mark,

It seems as if the SEALS used anything that fit their mission --- dunno if they used this particular craft, I am sorry to say...

Maybe someone else has some insight!

Much Aloha,

Hey Johnny, this may help.

LCP/L

If you can, get Squadron's WW2 USN Landing craft in action book. It has a lot of info in it.

Found this one, maybe this guy can help you out with some info:

He’s done a RC LCP (scroll down)

Thanks, Mark!

Given that the bottom picture in the first link shows a .30 cal with an LVT/LCVP-styled gun shield, I don't think it would be incorrect to assume that the
LCP (R)'s replaced their earlier "scarf"-type mounts with these as time went on...

Certainly it's an easy "upgrade" for the kit (I don't feel like looking around for Lewis guns, so the .30 cals will be easier...)

Thanks again, Mark!

Much Aloha,

John B.

Hi Havoc,

No suggestions but it looks like it will be an interesting model - keep us posted.

I didn't know about this kit until John mentioned it in a previous post, but I'm going to add it to my buy list if I can source one over here.

Cheers

Hiya, Al,

No sweat, sir. Will do, when I get a chance to jump in on it... I'm probably going to replace the scarf-type .30 cal mounts with those more commonly seen on LCVP's and LVTs...

By the way, I paid $21.00 for this kit on Ebay --- I thought that I would pass this along to you for reference if you are bidding on one. It's an old kit and it is not worth oodles and oodles of money...outside of how much you value needing it, ya know...?

Good luck!

Much Aloha,

Johnny B.

Hi Johnny,

Thanks for that. I'm not an e-bay fan but it's good to know all the same. I might come across one somewhere and if it's at the right price?????????

Enjoy the build and keep us updated.

Cheers

Hi Johnny,

I realise it might be a bit late in the day but I just came across this information that might be of interest to you, if you haven't linked into it before.

http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.warboats.org/images/jpg/StonerPics/stonerlcpl1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.warboats.org/lcpl.htm&h=481&w=751&sz=37&hl=en&start=1&tbnid=PPbcEOVlDnII8M:&tbnh=90&tbnw=141&prev=/images%3Fq%3DLCP%2B(L)%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG

How's the build going? Any major problems? I'm still in search of one of these little beasties myelf.

Cheers

Hiya, Alan,

Thanks a bunch for the cool link! Great photos of some esoteric war boats...

Alas, I have not started in on my UDT boat. It looks like a relatively easy build, but I was pondering adding thin strip wood decking (maybe) and changing the gun mounts, possibly using some discarded from Italeri LVT kits or Trakz/VP conversions... A buddy of mine addded two H&R Lewis guns to the ring mounts --- I'd probably stick with .30 cals from the Academy set. As such, I have put the kit aside for a bit...

In the interim, I built the Trumpeter USMC LAV-25, which was fun.

By the way, I was hoping to do a diorama with my Ital LCVP or LCM-3 (both of which are built --- great kits by the way) being loaded by a troop ship... Been looking for something to simulate the cargo net ladder --- I found a mesh bag that avocados come in at the supermarket and it looks like it might work. Gotta paint it first and see! Just a suggestion...

Thanks again, Alan! Have you been able to nab the UDT boat kit yet...?

Much Aloha,

Johnny B.

Hi Johnny,

I used part of an old camo net for a scramble net. Just coated it with PVA Glue and then painted it, worked quite well. You might be able to do a rope ladder from it - pause - yes that's possibe, I'll post a picture in a moment.

Yip, I really enjoyed both the Italeri LCM 3 and LCVP.

I might have got a source for the UDT Boat, just waiting to hear.

If you like the look of the scramble net on my boat (see the LC trio) I can cut you off a piece of my old camo net and send it over. I'll post a picture of the rope ladder in a moment.

I got 2 of the Trumpter LCM 3 very cheaply so there's another boat build in the planning stages at the moment.

Cheers

Hi Johnny,

Scramble Net and Rope Ladder.

Edit: PICTURE REMOVED FOR GALLERY SPACE

Once they are dry you can just dampen them again and shape them what ever way you like. To0 thick for cargo nets though.

Cheers
