Hey guys,

Here's my progress so far on the LCC. I started with the 1/35 LCP(R) and mocked up the armored cabin with card stock. I'll use the mock up as a template for the sheet styrene.

Today, I'm going to add a radio station and start on the cabin.

Looks great, Gator!
Hey, I found the right size cord for this scale, Bro, on it's way from Maine to my front door as we speak. . .I'll get the rest of the goodies ready this weekend and should be ready to go as soon as the "rope" arrives! Keep the updates coming!

Ah, good a scratchbuilding project
I know a few things about Reverine related boats but just can't remind about that one with armoured cabin! good luck with your project, i let myself think that this particular model was a bit soft in details, so i suppose you will have plenty of space to improve the kit

Hey JB,

This particular LCC started life as the USS Knox's LCP(R). The Knox's boat group made a field modification to add the armored cabin. She was then used as the Knox's LCC, the boat group's traffic cop.

Hi Kenny,

Just looking at this makes me want another one :-) :-) :-) :-)

I saw somewhere a thread about rope sizes: I don't know if mine are exactly to scale but I used Billing Boat Rigging thread:

0.8mm x 30m product No 04-BF-0072

and

1.2mm x 20m product No 04-BF-0075

Don't know if that's of any use. also if you need more life preservers

Life Ring 24 x 24mm Product No 04-BF-0024 are the right size, they are plastic, plastic if you know what I mean ,but I used them on the first set of British LCs I did, and they were fine once you get a good undercoat on them.

The Life Jackets from U Models are also excllent.

Cheers

Thanks Alan. I'll keep the rope size in mind when I detail mine out. Where did you find the spare tire? Parts box?. More work on her today.

Hi Kenny,

I ran a post asking for old unused or split tyres. Several people resonded and Tom very kindly sent me a bunch for the boats and the pier.

Look forward to seeing more. Just working on the radios for one of the trucks, some of the parts are invisible LOL, LOL.

Cheers

Not much work done on the boat. But I did make this today, a mini orbital sander.

I took a Oral-B rechargable toothbrush, pulled out the bristles and attached a Velcro dot to it, trimmed to fit. Then, I took some more of the dots and attached them to various grits of sandpaper and then cut them out with scissors.

It works really well, and for under $20. That will save me some money on sandpaper and sanding sticks. More money for models.

Here's what I got done today.

The interior is painted and weathered. The radio table is installed.

And the shell of the armored cabin is built. Now I need to finish all the small pieces in the front. I would imagine that the crew moved the bulkhead leading to the ramp back to the cabin.

looking good so far, will you build a dio around? Could be interesting for dio, because people standing on the top would make a very good balance and an eyecatcher element..
thanks for telling for the field modification!
I like your toothbrush trick, i have to check at which speed those go. i think that it could also be really useful for those final polishing jobs where you have to be careful about the way you stroke the elements, it has to be very precise and evenly and this trick could do the job quite OK..

Al, you naughty boy :-) :-) :-)

Ahoy mates! SmileyCentral.com
Here's the latest progress on the USS Knox's LCC. Yesterday I got the radio and a new table built and intalled. I scratch built a headset (too small) and a mike for it also. Wired the radio and installed in the boat only to find that you won't see the wiring anyway.

Today, I added more Rust-All to the deck, added the mike and scratch built a stool for the radio operator.

I also rebuilt the armored cabin. I was slightly "hand"icaped (lol) when I built my first attempt. the second one is far better. I left some of the seams as this was built in the field. I reinforced all the joints between the roof, front and back along with adding stiffeners to the roof. Here it is painted and dry-fit.

Comments welcomed, of course.

Nice work Kenny, i am just asking myself -would all those accessories like radio or chair would be somewhat glued to the hull so that when maneuvring the whole wouldn't fall on the floor?!
keep on the good work!

Hey Gator!

Man, she be lookin' sweet Bro!
Your attention to detail is wonderful, mate, keep up the great work!

A couple of rope fenders would be really nice, wouldn't they?
My wife brought home a couple smaller sizes of braided hemp (the color and look is PERFECT) but once finished, the size is way off. . .still trying, though!
Keep Modeling!

I love to see a scratch build. The interior is nice, the radio looks very good.

While the headset may be too small, will you notice the size difference when the roof is installed? It may be acceptable (if you want to move on). I understand the idea of getting it all right so if that's a goal, then by all means go for it.

JB - You are correct my friend. The table would be bolted to the bulk head and the radio bolted to the table. With the radio operator sitting on the stool, no need to bolt that to anything. Unlike normal landing craft, the LCC stayed off the landing beaches to direct traffic.

Gunny - Thanks. This is a fun build. I plan on placing a map on the table and maybe some small arms on the engine housing. As far as the rope fenders, patience is a virtue.

Scott - It's really not that hard to make the head set. 26 gauge wire and masking tape. Styrene rod for the ear pieces. Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks Alan.

The next thing on the list is to work on the .30 machine guns and the mounts. I've done some hunting and have an idea on how they were mounted. I'll make the mods and the finish and mount the cabin.

Ahoy mates. Here's some photos of the LCC. I've got her weathered and stenciled. I need to paint the tarps and add the life preservers.
