In-Box Review
172
S-Boat

by: Darren Taylor [ P7 ]

After building a couple of Revell's airoplane kits, I thought I would expand my collection to include at least one warship. Being impressed with the level of detail moulded into the plastic.
I choose a couple in fact, this kit and the considerably larger flower class corvette - both in 1:72 scale.

The model comes in a largish box, with the normal open ends. Inside are a number of sprues, moulded in a light grey plastic. A decal sheet, some thread for making the aerials and an instruction booklet.
The booklet is printed on the usual recycled paper and is up to the excellent standard that Revell is beginning to produce. There is a number of pages and the construction stages number over 50.
The model is considered as a skill 5 (containing over a 100 parts). Upon scrutiny it seems that the kit would be accessable to any level of modeller.

Throwing caution to the wind, I began with constructing the hull - the crucial part of any ship! I did this in order to check the overall fit and I was thoroughly impressed! This is a relatively new tooling, I am unaware of it being a reissue. Therefore, the two hull halves went together very well and needed little sanding to smooth the mating surfaces. Some excess plastic needed triming of some of the hull detail, namely where the metal bollards are placed at the front for the ropes to be slung around, when moored.

Sadly contruction is slow as I have a lot on my plate at the moment - but in a week or so I will begin contruction in earnest.

Overall I think this is a superb kit and for the price of 13:99 - you cant go wrong! Think of other kit producers who charge that much for a small 1:72 plane. I recommend anyone interested in this kit to get one whilst they are still being produced. Perhaps a group build is in order?
