Hi Paul. Yes, we are finally underway. Im really glad we managed to get the site up and running before the campaign started as there should be plenty of content for it with the group build! Quoted Text

The D-25's and D-26's were the first bubbletop batches produced at Farmingdale and Evansville respectively. The D-25's were fitted with the Hamilton prop and the D-26's were fitted with the Curtiss Paddleblade. Nige |

Nige, complete change of plans. If just ordered these decals: from 'Aztec models' Now a question for you, as you know I'm a complete novice on P-47's and 1/48 scale, so which P-47D kit would be correct for the first (top left) aircraft? I'm thinking Tamiya bubbletop but I'll bow to your knowledge oh great wise one. Luciano |

Hi Luciano Joining the ranks of 1:48th builders?, nice one. Great choice of scheme Your P-47 44-33721 is a D-30-RA and your best kit would be the Tamiya "M" kit. This will give you the flat cockpit floor, the correct fusalage fillet, dive flaps and the repositioned landing light etc. Engine would be the P+W 2800-59 with the turtleback magnetos. See the "which magneto" thread for a picture. Prop would be the Curtiss prop but youd have to check your references to see if it was the paddleblade or asymetic one. Hope this helps Nige See you at Bolton |

Happy new year, everybody. I got started on my Bolt yesterday (Managed a decent paint mix for wheel hatches and cowling interior) and will post when I've found the photos. They are buried in the heap of pics from the new years party, and that always take some pepping up to go through. + + + = Anyway, I've seen that there is a tendency here to make build blogs in stead of using the main thread. Is that the preferred method, Nigel? Or should I go on as usual? |

Hi Tony. Welcome along Quoted Text
Anyway, I've seen that there is a tendency here to make build blogs in stead of using the main thread. Is that the preferred method, Nigel? Or should I go on as usual?
The preferred method is that everybody enjoys their build, which is what its all about. Seems that some people are choosing to have build blogs,( I notice youve started one too), and thats great, but its equally as great if people just want to post finished photos in this thread and the Campaign Gallery. The official preferred method is that everybody enjoys their build, which is what its all about. Nige |

Right Nigel. I just asked because I knew I would make a blog for it. Frankly, my question answered itself five minutes later. I made a blog in one forum, but it showed up in another, and that was really what I was wondering about. Finally - I do enjoy the build, as well as the company and the general environment. Only drawback with this one is the sheer size. I tried a Bf 109 fuselage in the Bolt, and only the fin pointed out of it |

Hi everybody, today I was looking in the toyshop of my hometown for a easy kit to build and then my eye fell on the Italeri's P-47N in 1:72. Main idea of buying this kit was to work on a aluminium (?) finish of the plane, which for a while I was thinking about to try. Unfortunately, tonight I read some horrible reviews about the P-47N kit of Italeri, that it is just lacking any accuracy. That's a pity, but that cannot refrain me from trying the alu finish of the plane. As I build a long time ago a plane, I thought it is a nice a idea to join the campaign and to learn a lot from you expert P47 modelers. I will post progress of my build here in the campaign topic, but if you think it is necessary to start a build log, I will do that. Jelger |

Hi Jelger. Welcome to the P-47 SIG The Italeri N has certainly suffered from some adverse press.I have one in the stash but havent got around to building it yet. There are reviews of the model HERE and HERE As I said in an earlier post, theres no requirement to do a full build blog, simply posting a finished photo of your P-47 is enough to qualify for a campaign ribbon. However, seeing as you've offered, it would be very nice for the site to have a build blog of this kit as you dont see many finished examples of it. Nige |

OK on my way to building a t'bolt, picked this up at a show last weekend and in the markings I wanted to do from the Aztec decal sheet. Anyway decals arrived from Hannants this weekend checked them out and thought them to be a bit small, then noticed they'd sent me 1/72 instead of 1/48 Anyway a phone call will be made tomorrow. (1/48 listed on invoice) Luciano |

Now that my FW190 is done i'm into this one full swing. In memory of my first ever model when i was about 7 years old, which was a Thunderbolt. I hope this one turns out better. I won't do a blog for this one, as it's a pretty straightforward subject and the Tamiya kit is well enough covered! My subject is this one. I just took an instant liking to the blue canopy frames and tail bands. Andrew |

Hi all, Nigel, I found a decal sheet with a P-47C that carried the external fuel tanks we've talked about. I think I will do this one though it doesn't has a sharkmouth on it.. The decal sheet is from Skymodels (SKY48039) and I found it at Hannants. There are marking for 20 different thunderbolts on it! Now I just have to find some time to build the model... Jean-Luc |

Hi Jean-Luc! This is going to be good! Thats an excellent decal sheet and great value for money. Only sharks tooth decorated ferry tanks Ive ever seen are on the two 56thFG aircraft I sent you photos of, and one of those isnt identified Will you be using the Loon Models P-47C cowling? Nige |

Howdy Y'all! I am changing my mind (or going out of it) for my build. I originally wanted to do 1/48 Tamiya Bubbletop of Don Smith's "Ole Cock III" but am switching to a Tamiya 1/72 Razorbaack of "Stalag Luft III/I wanted Wings. It was piloted by Lt Alber Knafelz, 62nd FS/56th FG. I love the 56th FG camo schemes. The decals are from SuperScale. Just started working on the cockpit but will have to wait before I post pics. I still use a film camera. Y'all take care now. Lakota |

Hello all, I wanted to ask a question which is off topic. Is this SIG a temporary site for the duration of the campaign or do they intend to make this and possibly other SIG's a permanent part of the site. If someone could fill me in or send me to a thread discussing this subject i would appreciate it. Thanks and sorry for asking this off topic question but this seemed like a good place to ask since it is new. |

My understanding is this site is now the permanent home of the P-47 SIG not just for the duration of the campaign. |
