Has anybody thought of doing a Canadian campaign? Personally, I think that it would make for an excellent series of models, especially considering the great builds that I've seen on this forum, especially chrisj's Canadian Leopard 2 with slat armor.
Is this a good idea for a campaign? What do you think?

Thank you James for the compliment. As for the Canadian group build,I'm all about that idea. Check out Todd's build of the Lynx and there is a very nice SB of a Canadian ADATs M113 plus of course the great C2 Mexas builds by Rick and Miloslav. Great Idea!! There are a good many people on here that know a lot about Canadian gear. |

I'm glad that everybody likes the idea! I have a few new models that I could use as entries: a CF-18 (started, but not completed), a Firefly, and a Nieuport 17. I think that there are enough people who model Canadian equipment and ordinance to set up a decently sized campaign, but we'd have to include all types of equipment, armor and aircraft to show off Canadian military history best. By the way, just call me zaltar, I prefer not to put my real name online, so James Bond is just an alias. zaltar |

You mean *another* Canadian Campaign - there was 'Canuck Steel' a while ago: http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewforum&forum_id=35&g_id=178&page=1 Man, was it really back in 2005! Regardless, I'd be in as well. Jim |

I think it's a great idea Zaltar, I have a Staghound under construction (build log over on the WarWheels forum) that I am building as a 12th Manitoba Dragoon's car. If we set a completion date far enough out I might even get it done Randy |

I'm really glad that everybody likes the idea so much!
Randy, no need to worry about a close completion date, I'm a slow and methodical modeler too, so I'd like to set it for 3 or 4 months until completion.
Now, about the heart of the campaign, what do you think about the name "The True North Strong and Free Campaign"? I think that it's fitting and I hope that you like it too. We could also make it like the Ancestors in Scale Campaign, and have any type of model, armor, aircraft, and others, then it would show our variety of skills.

I love the idea! I'm just clearing off my plate of projects near completion (Aussie Abrams). I have a few Dieppe Builds schedule next (Churchill MK I and a Dingo... and if time a MK III) which I want to do build logs on here on Armorama. I have the Cromwell Models conversion enroute and will be starting the Churchill very very soon. Also waiting for Echelons Dieppe decal release... should be very soon I hope. I've never joined a campaign before so I don't know what is involved. Send me a PM and we can talk so I can get educated with what's involved and commitments, etc.
Is there a link that describes the campaigns?
I'm hesitant to join on the spot as I typically build a project in 6-10 month time frames so 3-4 months would be putting some pressure on me and I don't want to compromise on my finish quality.
Sorry for the banter.. I'm new to this campaign stuff....
Cheers lads!

Csmanning: I'm glad that you're happy about the campaign. Trust me, I have no idea how to start or operate a campaign, but I was hoping to use this as a learning curve for myself. I was only pontificating about the timeline, it can be longer if anyone needs more time (people like myself, taking two years to make a Tamiya Tiger ) Is there anyone who has a good idea for a starting date for this? zaltar |

Okay, I've started to work on banners for the campaign; I'll make three and then we can choose the best. I'll try and have these done by the weekend or earlier.
What do you think of October 20th as the start date, and then April 20th as the completion date? I think that should be adequate, but if you think you'll need more time, just post and let me know.

One of the serious problems in planning against Canadian doctrine is that the Canadians do not read their manuals, nor do they feel any obligations to follow their doctrine.

I'm glad to hear that everybody is in, and likes the dates. Rick: Your Leopard would make an excellent addition to the campaign, it doesn't matter if anybody's models are partially complete, you can use it as an entry. I don't think that it's fair for people to have to run out and buy something for it, especially with the bad economy. Here's the first of the banners, what do you think? zaltar |

I'm glad that everyone likes the banner! It's also nice that you have all decided on what models you're going to build. I'll try to work quickly on the other banners as soon as I've got time. I'm also going to go onto other Kitmaker sites and tell them that they're welcome to join.

Well I think I will join in on this one all the kits I'm building this winter are Canadian, so the only problem I have is picking which one to enter. I like the first banner, very nice. Cheers. Todd. |

David: I'm glad that you're interested, and I hope that it fits into your schedule. I think that I'll make the first banner the official one, I prefer it as well. Rick: I'm glad that you want to join too. By the way, James Bond is just my screen name, I prefer not to post my real name on websites, so just call me zaltar. Actually, I haven't been to Ottawa, although I would like to go there. Todd: Thanks for joining! As I mentioned above, the first banner will be the official one. Anyways, now that I've welcomed all of the newcomers, here's the badge for the campaign. It's from the WWII shoulder flash, so I hope that you like it. I hope to submit the idea to the officials ASAP. zaltar |
