Hi All,

This will serve as the Official Thread for the Pearl Harbor 75th Anniversary Campaign. The Campaign will begin on 07 December 2016 and run until 07 December 2017.

As mentioned in the Campaign Guidelines all ships, planes, automobiles, and scenes from both sides are allowed to participate.

As I am in Hawaii if there is anything anyone needs pictures of please do not hesitate to let me know.

I look forward to this Campaign kicking off and I know it will be a success.

Sal,

According to this reference the PBY-5s were at Ford Island but not the 5A.

Not sure what the differences are between the two versions.

Can the kit be built as a PBY-5?

Hi everyone,

In preparation for this campaign and to assist with kit selection I am posting this link to the Pearl Harbor Order of Battle.

It is quite extensive and lists details for both American and Japanese Forces.

I hope you find it helpfull. I will post additional information in the days to come

Todd,

Welcome back my brother. I figured you would be interested in this campaign. Considering that I'm here in Hawaii for the 75th this campaign is near and dear.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with

Sal,

After a little reading (and believe me, I am no aircraft expert )...the main difference between the PBY-5 and 5A is the landing gear. The 5's were strictly amphibious...landing gear was added to the 5A's. Most of the records point to 5's only at that time....I found from Dave's Warbirds site that "the new 5A's" showed up in Hawaii in Spet. of 42.

Just joined this campaign...looking forward to start date.

My entry will be a Mirage USS Ward DD 139 in 1:400 scale.
I have had it in my stash for a while...now I have a reason to build it.

Cheers,
Joe

Joe,

Welcome aboard. Really glad to see that someone is going to build the USS Ward.

Now to see if someone builds a midget submarine.

Hi David,

Thanks for the welcome.

I am actually thinking of scratch building the midget sub, in the same scale, to display alongside the ship.

Have a great day!

Hi Everyone,

I have been looking at developing the ribbon for this campaign. Here is my first attempt. Please let me know your thoughts.

The Todd and thanks for the information I also found that an MG was added to the rear of the 5A So I guess if I go with this kit I can close up the landing gear openings with some plastic card and putty

I like both ribbons but I don't think the details of the second one will show up when you shrink it down to proper size

David,
Sal might be right about losing detail with the second ribbon. Are you using a 48 star or 50 star U.S. flag for the first ribbon? Just my thoughts and comments...
Take care,

Dave, I like your design for the ribbon very much!

For what it's worth, I'd reverse the order with the Japanese battle ensign on top (they did win this one!) and replace the US flag with a 48-star version. Also, since the ribbon that people will actually see is so small, I'd consider dropping the black band and number. The most successful ribbon designs are, IMHO, usually the simplest.

Tim

Thanks for the feedback. Will change and reorient the flags.

The black band is actually supposed to be the sillouete of the AutoZone Memorial

But as you said it may not look good in such a small ribbon

Hey guys,
Count me in on this one. Right now I'm looking at a P-40B or SBD-2 but I'm not locked in on either one. But I couldn't let this campaign go by without building something. Looking forward to it!

About 70-80% I've had this under construction for over 1 1/2 years....No worries if it's too "mature".

Dave,
Never mind--I navigated and found the rules...no already started models...
Good luck to anyone completing any larger models other that out-of the box in a year!
