Today's progress, decals

gloss coat on the deck.

All the superstructure decks were done at the same time.

Walkways on the main decks down.

And on the superstructure decks,

The walkway decals did need quite a bit of micro sol and set to get them to behave.

Hull number and draft marks on the bow.

And stern.

First job tomorrow, matt coat to seal everything and remove the gloss sheen.

Did I ever say, one of the reasons I like building ships is the general lack of decals?

Cheers

Thanks Norman,

You will get the full effect when it has got a matt coat on it.

Yesterday's progress.

Matt coat on the decks.

detail parts going on the maindeck.

The shelter deck fitted.

props painted, not sure why I fitted them prior to painting the hull, but no harm done.

Lower bridge deck and after gun deck in place.

Did have a small accident and knocked some paint over, fix is underway on the quarterdeck, the lighter areas, will need glossing and some spare decal put down etc, hope it will be invisible.

Cheers

Thanks Russ,

Amazing what a couple of cheeky days off work for progress.

The spill is slightly annoying, but nothing that can't be put right, lesson not to leave a jar of paint on the edge of the bench.

Both funnels all etched up.

TT's ready.

The three enclosed 5" gun houses assembled.

Repair to the walkways on the quarterdeck, not perfect, the lighting hasn't been kind, but doesn't really show, especially with the gun on place.

After superstructure detail added.

Fitted, with the searchlight platform.

Both 5", director tower and depth charge racks and smoke generators assembled.

and sprayed.

More soon.

Cheers.

I love watching your builds. Everything is so tidy. I wish I had the pe skills for the railings, I'm building the dragon cvl 22 USS Independence. Using eduards photo etch set and I always have issues with railings. Curved railings are my weakness. Keep up the amazing work.

Hi Russ,

Thanks mate, for a Dragon kit she is relatively straight forward, non of the mass of light AA and radars of the later war fit destroyers.

I would reckon, apart from the usual miss-numbering in the instructions, it is nicest kit of that label I have built.

Hi Norman,

Thanks for your kind comment, the PE stuff is just practice, must admit I went through a few frets of PE railings when I started.

Enjoy the Indy, built that kit a while back, it has it's issues, but it is worth the effort, I built her for Leyte Gulf campaign a little while back.

Hi Si!

Quite some progress here - For just an 'quick OOB' quite a lot of PE, but she looks outstanding!

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks Jan,

Well OOB with the GMM etch, being pre war and lacking a forest of AA it a lot simpler than most destroyers.

Si,

nice progress here as well, she's looking really good!! -what happened to the aft searchlight platform, though?? Looking a little seasick there, or is the perspective from the picture wrong?

Cheers,
Jan

Hi Jan,

Whoops, didn't notice that, must have knocked it, also as I missed the last photo, because it looks like I knocked it straight again. (must be more careful, and re read my posts to check for mistakes as well!

Here she is on the stand.

Cheers
