Daves Tugboat Project #3

The rails along the cabin are just bumps molded into the cabin. I didn’t like the looks of this at all. I drilled holes at the end of each one and sanded the edge of the cabin smooth. To make the rails I just stuck soft wire in the holes and glued them on the backside after the cabin was painted.

That’s about the extent of the modifications. The rest of assembly was done after the painting.
All the small parts were cleaned up and I glued them to a file card with Elmer’s Glue to hold them during painting.

Congratulations Dave
I really liked the way you turn an eventual problem (not finding another tug like the previous two) into an excellent solution and another atractive point to enjoy watching and finding details to enjoy!
Although the rust method was different it brings a good look to it and also makes the dio more interesting!
Excellent
Good edit Mark - Thanks

Good stuff Dave! I am enjoying the process as much if not more than the results. Glad to see the experience and results of the two part rust product as well.

fantastic work...Sometimes it's harder to portray the beat-up look than an everyday appearance...I saw that 2 part rust solution a while ago on another forum and fancied trying it instead of Rust-all...
Of course I quickly discovered that it was not available online So one more product had to go on my dream list....
Just give me one day in US hobby shops/Art stores/Home improvement centres
Jim..( A deprived European who is even more deprived having moved here to Warsaw from London)

Thanks for reply...I did go to site first thing and they only supply other outlets All of them US based and some now gone from the web.The others don't have web ordering or only in shop buying..All in all a bugger for us European interested parties....
Would also like to know how to make the rust powder from steel wool..tried it before and only got black wool and thick sludge on the bottom..Is water or maybe vinegar better????
