ModelTroia 2008 - tenth edition

This year Modeltroia was the tenth edition, so there were some attention to some parallel initiatives, like the recent created GIN (Grupo de Interesse Naval, or in English, Warship SIG), a Portuguese Army SIG and also Japanese WWII SIG.
There was also the exhibition and contest areas with the inclusion of the newly created Master Class.
All went well, with some new and some "old" models, plastic, resin, wood and also two R/C torpedo boats (one operational and other "in the conversion process").
Although th elight conditions were not the best, here is the Photo Report.
Enjoy

Thank you Rui for posting these photos. It's overwhelming and very encouraging to see this level of ship modelling. We're lucky in part of the world to get a few categories in a contest spared for ships, there in Portugal, you have an entire contest for ship models! It's nice to see the wide variety of ships and subs displayed. The great big wooden vessels are works of art. The plastic models first class. The IJN fast transport is my favourite,(again that IJN bias showing ) The Shirane and the Alvares Cabral are both stand outs, well done Rui!! Frank

Hi Mike, Yes it is my icebreaker, not finished though... The "New and the Old" soviet submarine dio is from Filipe Remember that we are a small community here, so there are a lot of familiar models (and faces) every year Thanks Mike Hi Frank, Correction here: This were the tables an SIG's ship related There were airplanes, AFV's, Civil Cars, Figure and Dio's - since the show is "too big" to make a full report, I have decided, three years ago to make a "ship only" report. I think that a ship only contest would fail to success Yes the T-9 is very good, as is the HMS Onslow. The Shiraze is not finished yet, but I decided to take it anyway - I thought the Orange would bring colour to the ship area - it did! Thanks to all Rui

Remarkable photos indeed. Hopefully next year we will have more ships and a bigger SIG, also we would like that people from outside Portugal would join us in the SIG or in the Model Show.

I felt my eyes bulge at that sub dio on page 1, wow, what a splendid work! i really like the way the ice has been done, great off centered and realistic melting! I really love that one. Otherwise, it seems Portuguese are really very good at building boat scale models! Your own Kaszub and IJN sub really stand out from the crowd but some of the sub stuff is really very good as well. OK so, I don't think i see that question asked already, but how many medals did you snatch ? JB

Congratulations on the awards Rui. Thanks for posting the photos, enjoyed seeing them.
MAR 22, 2008 - 07:52 AM
You're Welcome Dave - it's the least I can do As for the awards, they are only awards... the main thing is to participate and show what can be done with some bits of plastic (or wood). Indeed is a GREAT COMPLIMENT, Jean-Bernard! As we have discussed before, it's hard to make new ways of displaying ships, so, I guess I can go a little artist on showing mine (not as you do - you are a Poet!!!) Cheers, Rui
