"MSW crew-mate Somboon Vongveeranonchai (eddiev200) continues in his 1/700 scale submarine series with this fine gallery of images in this "On Display" Feature!"
Model Details: This pair was the first DML 1/700 submarine's of the series that began my collection. This series was hard to find, as it is currently out of production. This kit is # 7006, USS Benjamin Franklin vs. Soviet Sierra.
The models are molded in gray styrene, and made up of top and bottom of hull halves...the fit of hull halves is very poor, and requires a lot of sanding for a good fit. Overall assembly of this kit was easy to construct and straight forward.
Painting of this model was just as easy as the assembly... On the USS Benjamin Franklin, I used no.71 "Midnight Blue" on top and no.81 "Russet" below, and for Sierra II, I used no.339 "engine gray" on top and no.31 "Dark Gray" below.
All of the colors used are Gunze "Mr.Color", and weathering by "Tamiya" X1 Black. The name plates on the display stand was printed from white decal sheet.
I didn't do any dry-brush on these models, because all parts are so small , especially antennas , mast stowed and propellers.
