Seeaufklärung

"MSW crew-mate Jan Klarbæk (MrMox) shares a fine dio-scene in 1/350 scale, in this MSW Feature!"

This is a little in between project involving the AFV Club VII B in 1:350 in company with a Trumpeter Arado Ar 196 and a few Tamiya figures.

The Boat

This is a nice a highly detailed kit, which very nicely depicts a prewar/early war type VII B in scale 1:350. I decided on doing the kit as waterline which is possible due to the kit layout. Building was straight forward as I didn't have to worry about the lower hull, and the rather complex rudder assembly.

The detailing on this kit has to be seen - awesome!

I vouched for the styrene railing instead of the otherwise fine etch - I felt that the styrene was so finely molded that I sacrificed the thin etch to get something that was round as, brass etch never is.

Personally I don´t really get the idea of adding a inner hull, which only purpose is to hold the two hull halves apart for the upper hull. Otherwise it will be completely hidden when its assembled.

Painting was done mostly with Vallejo Air - washing done with inks.

The Plane

Since this little kit comes all molded in clear styrene, its a bit difficult to work with...it's a bit brittle, so care must be made while separating the parts from the tree and cleaning it up.

Again, painted with Vallejo Air and washed with inks. The decal set misses the swastika for the, tail, and are a bit off register when it comes to the crosses.

The figures

These figures are from Tamiya, and are a bit disappointing as they are a bit too much 2 dimensional, which should be possible to do better in cast styrene in this scale. Flash free and delicate, but too flat for the media.

The base

Done with crumbled aluminum foil, then painted and coated with a thin layer of acrylic gel. Touched up with gel mixed with a little white paint for the foam.

All in all a quick and enjoyable little build to try out a few different things!
