DKM Prinz Eugen

"MSW crew-mate Augusto Martinez (rea00cy) shares his second submission with us (and equally as impressive as his first!), German heavy cruiser DKM Prinz Eugen, in this "On Display" Feature!"

This is the old Heller kit in 1/400 scale. I used TMW specific and generic PE and WEM AA weapons PE sets. I also used Tauro models flags, and some home-made decals.

Many scratch-built add-ons and rebuilt parts and elements were made to improve the model. Among these I would mention the seaplanes, hangar opened door and interior, masts. Some photos show these details in the making.

This model was one of my first attempts on using a new approach to water-making, and now I think is developed enough by being tried in some additional models. I have included some photos of this technique too. Now I think it is mature enough and therefore I will submit a SBS article to MSW soon.

I think my effort ended up in a fairly nice model. I hope modelers will like it as well, but please mates, don't hesitate to make any critique or point out any flaw, since that's the best way to develop my skills and make better models. So fire at me with your best shots!

Augusto: I certainly cannot find fault with your builds here. They look fantastic!. However, at your invitation, I would only note that the ocean you made looks like the ships are sailing in 15 feet of south pacific water (i.e. way too light blue). The North Atlantic where those ships would normally be found is very dark blue green. It is ofter portrayed at scale as black. Other than that - a fantastic build

Thank you all for your kind and useful comments. David: you are right. It's only recently that I started to pay more attention to the color of water depending on the scenario. But for this model, that is part of a large diorama, "the Channel Dash" or "Operation Cerberus" (You got it Jim!)I didn't focus on that detail. But it's never too late! Very opportune your comment. Just right now I'm upgrading another kriegsmarine diorama -supposedly taking part on the North sea or Noregian waters and I just paint it as you can see in the imgs below. I guess from what you said that it is too blue.
