HMS hood…

This is my version of the trumpeter 1/350 HMS Hood. I have modified it to backdate the ship to 1940. At this time Hood still carried her steam pinnacle boats and admirals barge and still retained her foremast. I feel she looked her best at this time. I have carried out all the corrections listed on the Hood website with the exception of adding signal shelters because this work had not been done at this time.

Major corrections are, addition of diesel exhaust to rear tripod mast. Correction to vents at rear of shelter deck. Addition of vents for blacksmith and coppersmith workshops beside the rear funnel.

Correct internal funnel detail. ( HMS Hood did not have pipes or tubes coming up inside her funnels) Addition of vents to b and x turrets Etc I used Lion roar turrets, barrels, and PE. Also used was PE from Wem, GMM, and Eduard. If I was to only use one set I would recommend the Eduard, the relief etching is superb.

Hand painted with Humbrol enamels.

I am a retired Medical Microbiologist. I built my first ever model at age 56 and was instantly hooked. I am mainly interested in ships but may try some armour one day. I am inspired by some of the great modellers whose work is featured on this site.

A lot of hard work has gone into this fine build, the colour looks great, love the main barrels and small life boats, a BIG well done and thank you for sharing.

Having been very fortunate to see this model "in the flesh" can I say in my limited opinion its a fantastic model. The old saying "pictures dont do it justice" apply. Superb result especially as Colin has only completed 5 or so ships so far. Colin take a true bow job very well done! Watch this space for his next model. A true talent is emerging my shipmates. Cheers Sean
