HMS Astute…

HMS Astute S119 Royal Navy Submarine.
Built : BAE Systems Barrow-in-Furness and launched 8th June 2007.
Commissioned 27th August 2010 for Clyde Naval Base, and on sea trials.
Displacement 7,400 tonnes submerged.
Length 97m., beam 11.3m., draught 10m.
Propulsion Rolls-Royce PWR2 reactor giving speed 29 knots submerged.
Crew 98 officers and men.
Armament 6 x 533mm tubes.

The build…
This is the Hobby Boss 700 scale plastic kit of HMS Astute with full hull or waterline options. The kit has a minimal number of parts with more decals than actual parts unless you prefer the waterline option.

The build is quick and simple even with the water base option as shown. It also gives you a chance to show your black painting skills or technique. I used White Ensign Models disruptive black with a Windsor and Newton polar white ink wash to reduce the effect. There is some MIG rust color but very limited.

My result is a nice quick exercise to keep your hand in and build a value for money £3.75 from your local shop, kit.
