HMS Astute...

The build is of the HobbyBoss 1:350 scale Royal Navy HMS ASTUTE.
Following a mild heart attack in the summer of 2012 and while on sick leave, I took on some simple projects, nothing too complex, to keep the morale up. The first project was the Hobby Boss 1:350 scale HMS ASTUTE.
The construction was quite simple for this type of modern sub as there is not much external detail compared to WWII subs with all their deck weapons, rails and cables.
The sub went together very well, as parts are very nice and almost perfectly molded and with minimal flash.
Painted with Tamiya acrylics and weathered with chalk pastels to keep the effect minimal.
All colored strips were painted on, as the kit supplied ones are to short to be properly applied.
The figure in the conning tower is a Fujimi navy officer modified and painted to represent a modern Royal Navy officer wearing flotation gear.

I always liked simple builds, they are a good cleansing for the soul. You did very well painting the lines, I have yet to form a straight and clean line with paint. We hope to see more from you soon Joe.

Very good. I was onboard at various stages of the build at Barrow in Furness, Cumbria at the yard that was known most recently as Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering. I too am recuperating from a different medical issue but a real success so hurrah! There is a hideous back-log of things to build but am now engaged in finishing a 1/700 IJN Hyuga which I bought perhaps 25 years ago, all very therapeutic.
