Chris Flodberg shares with us some pictures of his HMCS Huron Tribal Class Destroyer in 1/350th scale. This is the Trumpeter offering of the HMCS Huron Tribal Class Destroyer. Chris used a mix of photo etched detail parts to greatly enhance his model, using photo etched products from Eduard and North Star amongst others. HMCS Huron saw action in both World War Two and the Korean War and continued to serve well into the 1960’s.

What a wonderful diorama, Chris! Your subtle color variations are superb and I notice how you used the artist's rule of 1/3's in setting your model at one end of the scene to convey drama and expectation (see Craig Kodera's "Looking for Nagumo" PBY painting as an example). Simple built Chris compared to the BBs but so very effective and alive.Excellent job with your pictures too.Have a look at Helicon focus if you want to get more involved with your photography.

thanks Kostas. the images as they appear now are the ones I intended. The zoom-ins have been removed. I shoot close in with a very high aperture number and low ISO. I get good front to back clarity at close range. I should invest in a better lens though!

Fantastic work Chris! I really do need to get my hands on one of these kits. Currently working on the 1/700 Zulu myself. If mine turns out half as good as yours I'll be happy. I'd love to know how you did that wave breaking across the bows? Stephen

Thanks Phantom. V-shape bow wave was sculpted out of an air dry craft clay. I then painted it with the blue-mint green-white gradation and slowly had it blend into cotton. It was something I'd always intended to try, but was nervous about. I'm happy with it though : )

Chris, I'm planning on doing a Flower Class Corvette in 1/72nd in heavy N. Atlantic seas, and really will need to get your advice on how to accomplish that.

I'd never considered using cotton wool to make spray. I might give it a go on my next project. The trick will be in getting it to look in scale!
