USS Kansas City

Latest on the list from my favourite patron is the USS Kansas City by Ships and Co. The kit itself is a bit better than average in molding and composition. However, its biggest shortcoming is the lack of the open lattice beams on the large dereks so prominent on the ship. The kit has solid pieces of resin with the beams molded into them with instructions to sand off everything but the beams (a rather unlikely event with little chance of success). However, this can be remedied, as I found that Plastruct makes a set of open trusses which fit perfectly. They are Part # OWTA -6 and can be found at the link below. Part # OWTA -6 Live links

Also lacking on the kit are PE parts of any sort and decals. However Ships and Co. does make a generic decal sheet sold separately which will do the job. The build required the Plastuct parts, decals and various PE to make it work. The refuelling hoses were made from standard speaker wire unwound and sprayed black. Overall, a great kit with great potential for detail and layering.

It looks really nice. Loads of detail present and a great looking ship that normally wouldn't get a spotlight.
