Polish artist and model builder Katarzyna Manikowska share with us one of her mighty miniature creations in 1/700 scale; Queen of Thanet.
The Queen of Thanet, as she would later be known, would see service as a minesweeper in the Second World War. Notable participation being to aid in the evacuation of Dunkirk and as a dispatch control ship during Operation Overlord. She would be sold after the war and renamed Solent Queen and operated in a civilian capacity until a fire in 1951 ending her long career of service.
Katarzyna Manikowska used AJM Models 1/700 scale kit of the Queen of Thanet to create this original vignette. Ms. Manikowska sees herself as a traditional modeller; "modeller - storyteller or fairy-teller" preferring to build vignettes instead of simply the model itself.

Built at the tail end of the Great War, the Melton was regulated to the the British Auxillery Patrol which was a anti-submarine initiative created to thwart the German submarine operations of the First World War.The Queen of Thanet, as she would later be known, would see service as a minesweeper in the Second World War. I love the single block of wood for the base and the way the grain has been used to suggest the movement of muddy water. Very creative.
