Ready to leave the yard
All finished now so here are the last photos. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed building this kit. There are numerous positives, such as the quality molding, attention to detail and the etch that is provided. The instructions are also a plus and are easy to follow. All you need to do is to plan several steps ahead, and consider how you are going to paint it if you glue a certain part to it. On the down side, there wasn’t enough etch and it was too thin, as well as the particularly poor stand. The lack of railings really lets the kit down as it doesn’t look right without them. Adding railings to the kit would clearly push the price up. If I was given the option, I’d jump at the chance of building another one. It was my first 1/350 ship and I’m happy to say that it’s given me real encouragement and an incentive to build others.

Thanks for posting this - i am about to embark down the same route and read your article with interest - especially the comment about not having a Lynx Helicopter. erm, it did, it had one embarked immediately after launch, i know because i was part of the flight as the Merlins still weren't ready and fully operational with the appropriate numbers This is the frustrating part i have only found with the model, it has a girly merlin helo ;-)

Great work, I have the 1/350 HMS Monmouth and WEM Etch set, the Merlin looks sweet on her stern. Cheers.
