Tom Fournier recently completed of one of Gallery Models 1/350 scale carriers for his first ship building experience. From the USS Intrepid kit Tom has created the USS Oriskany CV-34.
USS Oriskany CV-34
Using Gallery Models 1:350 USS Intrepid, I converted it to the USS Oriskany CVA-34. I utilized several detail kits to get the conversion as close as possible. I had some difficulty with the Eduard figures but finally figured out how to do it. I also made several of my own decals.

The model took me about 200 hours to complete the build. As a side note I opened the build up to crew members of the Oriskany who gave me there names, ranks, divisions, and years of service which I placed in the hull of the model as a memorial to the crew. There are over 800 names inside the hull.

I really enjoyed building this model and looking forward to tackling the USS John F. Kennedy CV-67 which was my second ship.

Model Shipwrights would like to thank Tom Fournier for supplying photos of his 1/350 scale USS Oriskany CV-34

Wonderful work! It's good to see some Cold War ship items make it onto the forum. --Karl

Thomas, that's a wonderful model! Yes, good to see a Cold War carrier. Counting the variety of aircraft on deck - amazing when we think of the F-18-heavy NAVAIR of today. That deck with all of those figures, you brought it to life!
