Hi Guys,

Some progress Pics on the Accurate Armour 20mm Oerlikon Cannon. Fig for scale.

Don't know much if anything about naval guns, I think the base needs to be a little blacker.

Comments welcome on painting thoughts.

Cheers

Hi Alan

The Oerlikon looks good... and now for a few tips from a guy who actually have spend some rounds on that gun:
- You'll need a shell bag, which is located below, between the back strap and the mount (I'll see if I can find any photos of it)
- Here, the handwheel was painted in grey (as the mount)
- The ammo drum used to be black

Some planes or fast craft recognition sillouettes painted inside the shield or near the area where the gun will be mounted would be a nice touch (by now you are ready to give me a shot!!)

Appart from these little details (I know, I am a real pest!!!!) it's great
I like the colour of the mount base

Hi skipper,

Thanks for the info. Used the pics form AA as the painting guide.

Have seen a pic where the ammo drum seems to be grey, and I rather like the red wheel lol, lol.

Hmmmm don't know about the shell bag lol, lol, sounds very dfficult to make given how delicate this kit is.

Thanks for the feedback. It's a neat wee kit and one i had about given up on ever building.

Cheers

Very nicely done Alan. Looks as if it had been out side for a while.

Hi Kenny,

Thanks for looking and the comments. I imaging the mounting was a permanent feature once in place and the gun and upright mounting could be unbolted and moved as necessary.

If installed at the beginning of the war then the mounting would have been in a the ground for a fair time whether or not the weapon was in place. That's kinda how I reconed it looking at the fittings.

It's turned out quite well. When I bought it for the LCM several years ago, I really wondered if I could actually build it.

Getting rid of the plug on the bottom was a real bugger.

Cheers

Looks good Alan.
Certainly looks 100% better than the ancient H&R 1/32 scale casting.

Hi Dave,

iI's a really neat little kit, not cheap though. Just found this pic on line and it would appear that a small number of rivets need to be added to the front of the shield.

So a little more work to do then!!!

Cheers

Very nice Alan. Afraid I don't know much about the subject, but it does look nice. I like the weathering on the mounting.

Hi Guys,

A couple of slightly better pics of the fixes on the 20mm. I decided to stay with the colour scheme I have,

Cheers

Hi Alan,

It's a great build, especially the weathering on the mounting base. The web like AA gun sight looks very good. Is it PE from the kit, or PE from other PE set, or you scratch build by yourself? Thanks for sharing your build.

Alan will this be mounted on the pier head (the bit at the very end out to sea)? And will you have some RN types leaning on the rails watching the scene thats unfolding below them, as I would think that if you do have any crew they would be quite relaxed at this stage of the war.

Looking good.

Hi Luciano,

Yip up top by the pier. RN sailors are hard to come by but I'm sure I'll come up with something.

Kenny, as always thanks for checking in.
