Hi all
I have this set from Voyager Model, but this is intended for IJN ships...
Does anyone make some US Depth Charges in brass, Mk6 / Mk8 in 1/700?
I feel that the depth charges roller racks on USS Cassin look kind of empty and I still have to add some K-guns and racks on port and starboard side...
I tried making them in streched sprue, but they are so small that any mistake or misalignment when cutting the sprue makes me feel kind of mad (on about thirty cuts I have a 10% success rate!!!)
Any input is welcome
Skipper

Oooooo, good question, Skip....
Quite honestly, I've never seen a dedicated USN 1/700 scale PE depth charge set, as this one for the IJN...I'll search around though, mate!
Toms has set #T-701, a Generic Destroyer set in 1/700...

Mark that sets very similar to there DE set which also has the racks and K-guns. Actually I think that set has 8 K-guns in that one but would need to check.
If I find anything I’ll let you know.

Hi Mark, Jacob and Burkhardt!
First, let me Welcome Burkhardt to Modelshipwrights!
Second, and now back to the dept charges racks rollers and K-guns...
For the USS Cassin I am using three sets of Tom's Modelworks PE Sets, since no dedicated set is available for Mahan Class DD's. Sets are:
#701 US Destroyer Set
#713 US Destroyer Escort Set
#714 Destroyer Rail Netting
In two of these sets, roller racks, thrower racks and storage racks are included, but as I have mentioned on the first post, I feel that these are empty - so, the need for good depth charges
What I pretend is to have this look:
not like this...
Burkhardt, I will send you the dimensions today or tomorrow!
Thnaks for your help
Skipper

Ok I see What you mean.
Looking at the instructions for the DE set it lists to make them from .030 or .035 inch rod. (Just doesn’t list the length. Do you know that should be?)
What I’m planing on doing when I get to them is to make some kind of jig with a few blades mounted the correct distance apart. That should keep them the same size and allow me to cut a few at a time.
just an idea.

Hi Jacob
In 1/700 scale (and in milimeters) each depth charge cannister should be 1.09mm in lenght and 0.75mm diameter.
As I said in the first post, I made some with cutted streched sprue but I didn't like the end result
And making a comparison with the IJN depth charges included in the Voyager set, and considering the amount of US and other allied ships that carried MK6 and Mk8 depth charges, although we have a good choice of PE roller racks and all the delicate sets, shouldn't we have available some Depth Charges also?
Just a thought for AM manufacturers
Cheers,
Skipper

Thanks for the info Rui.
I agree with you but I wish the charges would be included in the sets. I feel a set of just charges wouldn’t be worth it.

Hi,
I would have to test, if the smal barrels are possible in 1/700, but I would
try it.

Hi all
I have been talking with Herr Burkhardt and he got the plan views for Mk6 Depht Charges:
Diameter 0,65mm
Lenght 0,95mm
I have measured Mk3 Depth charges (sorry Jacob if I mislead you)
I am looking forward to see the result and get those racks filled
I will keep this info updated
Cheers,
Skipper
