Ahoy Shipmates
Departure
On the afternoon of August 15 1908 the Fleet had finished coaling and provisioning. With great reluctance the mighty Fleet weighed anchor to leave the port.
The mighty Waitemata harbour eeringly silent echoed to the activity of the Fleet. Sailors of the Fleet worked slowly as if their limbs were weighed down reluctant to leave the grand hospitality and warmth of New Zealand.
In accordance with its orders and not its hearts the Fleet was ready to move on to its next port of call.
There were few, if any of the crew who did not want to stay. It was the general consensus that outside the USA Auckland and New Zealand was the best liberty of the cruise to date.
The Fleets next stop was Sydney, Australia.
Regards
Sean
