Greetings.. back to modeling after many many years, doing my first 2 ships! Already have a question... what color you prefer to use as a primer?
Aircraft I usually prime with testors flat gray primer (enamel); I know armor folks prime with flat black... what do you use as primer for gray ships (military craft)? flat gray primer may confuse later applications of other shades of gray... Im building an easy monogram Nimitz kit (700) to start, as well as the revell PT109 boat (THAT one I primed since the plastic was dark green!). Thanks!

When I do use a primer I’ve always gone with white for all models.
Just my personal preference.

Me, I'm cheap. I always use auto primer from the auto shop or Wal-Mart. I've used both gray and red with equal results.

I realize that this is probably blasphemy, but I rarely prime at all and have never had a problem. I only prime resin (after washing.) I am planning on priming a Dragon P51 that I am starting (thats to reduce the panel lines.) For that I'll use a Wal-Mart spray primer, and then use a clear gloss before actually painting.

I use car primer, the one made for plastics. If you are careful to catch only the edge of the spray and not flood the model it works fine.
