Ahoy Shipmates
On the final evening sailors were treated to a show in the harbor unlike any they had seen. Starting at sunset a snake of almost 400 sampans rigged with swaying lanterns wound in and out of the Fleet at anchor.
Viewers remember the outline of the ships could not be seen, the entire effect was that of an illuminated sea serpent, miles long, twisting and turning among the ships. Many though it was the most beautiful thing they had ever seen on the water.
Cheers
Sean
