If I had the movie I would watch it and give my opinion. That is one fo the few John Wayne movies I do not have.

See if this helps.

I know that it is that maritime buff color, the same as on pre-dreadnought warships.
I just don't know what it's called or who make it in acrylic.

Kenny, Humbrol's Lufthansa Yellow is very close, but I do not now if it is in their new acrylic line.

Here are some better shots for you.
By the way, some parts of the deck are also painted this color.

This forwards mast appears a bit more orange than rear ones, in the same camera movement. The rear masts look closer to the color in the next shots below. It's probably because of the lighting.

Should be able to mix some buff with a touch of (olive?) green? Might be easier than to buy new paint.

It might just be my monitor but that doesn't look too far off from Desert Yellow by Tamiya. Here is another thought, I'll bet you can find a very similar color at the local Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Wal-Mart in their craft paints. You know, the paints where you get about 2.5 oz for under a buck? If the color isn't just right you haven't invested too much.

Thanks guys!

Ion - great reference photos. I plan on watching the movie again while I build.

Rodger - I was thinking the same thing. Now, with Ion's photos, I can match it better.
