I want to build a section of deck from HMAS Sydney in 1/32 scale for my Fisher models Seafury and have the following questions.
1. Was the deck wood or steel and in what color?
2. Did they have a non-skid surface?
3. Were the markings in white?
4. What type of tie downs?

Thanks for looking

Ahoy Mike!

Here's what I found so far...

From the looks of the second photo, I would say she had a steel flight deck with no anti-slip coating.

Thanks Gator,

Every picture I have of Sydney's flight deck suggests that it is a steel deck painted deck gray, but very weathered. What I can't see is tie downs. How the heck did they tie aircraft down?

Hi Mike,

Steel deck, painted AP 507A Admiralty Dark Grey (that's RN 01 in our Colourcoats line of enamels).

Thanks John, I think you had told me that, now if I can figure out what the tie downs looked like, I'll be in business.

RN RCN and RAN chained their A/c to the deck. During the Korean war decks were dark grey after the war they were ocean green
