Transporting Model Ships

Hi Guys,

I am moving some 1/700 model ships across country. How do you pack them? They are rigged with sprue and fine wire.

hi Fred

Not an easy task!!
I have travelled to England with six models (5 1/700 and 1 1/400) packed in two card boxes.
One in the bottom and two in each wall fixed with Bostik kind of glue/paste (don't know if there's an equivalent in the US, but this is very similar to Miliput, but has some tack aderence) and then with some wooden sticks across the water base, as a guarantee that they wouldn't colapse over the base diorama, made them perfectly sound for travelling!

The only problem occured when a German x.ray control operator got enthusiastic and put the hands inside the box and damaged my ORP Kaszub and also USS Cassin - nothing very heavy, but it really ****** me!
If he only could just watch, and not "watching" with his hands, I would have made a round trip safe and without damage.

So, my method worked.

Don't know how many models you are moving, and if you are going to drive, but some kind of "tall trays" could do the trick - as long as tehy are fixed to the base

Hope this helps - and GOOD LUCK!!!

Skipper
