Anyone know what wood was used for the Yamato’s deck?
I did a little research and found some references to teak but don’t know how accurate it is. Any one able to confirm this or not.
I’m trying to decide what sort of wood to make a base out of for an upcoming project.

Thanks again Bruce but I don’t have any place nearby that I can pick up exotics at.
I do have sources I can use to order almost any type of wood I need but unless I buy I few boards its not cost efficient. And the last thing I need right now is 20 board feet of teak taking up room in the shop.
I’ve got other sources to get some but I have to wait until something’s available.
That or find a job using teak.
Any one need a new set of teak shelves? Only costs a few thousand.

Jacob,
Two ideas for you. One, check wood turners supply sites. They always carry exotic wood in very small quantities, or, stain some pine, poplar or basswood with a teak stain.

Thanks Kenny.
Turning stocks something I hadn’t thought of. Not sure if I could find something the right size for a 1//700 Yamato to fit on or not. (Don’t have the size yet.) I’ll start looking around.
As for staining something else I really don’t like doing that. Especially considering I’m not too familiar with teak. But it does give me another idea.
I could look into some veneer and stick that over something. Possibly with a pen blank along the edge for the routing.
Gotta think on this one.
