If you are a fan of small boats, you should add Andrew Jackson Higgins and the Boats That Won World War II. I'm half through the book and it's wonderful. It not only about the LCVP, but the LCM (which was designed by Higgins) and the Higgins PT boat. It also speaks briefly on the freight supply ships he built for the US Army and the Higgins Boat School.

I did learn that the Navy referred to the LCM as a "tank lighter." And thanks to MSW, I know what a lighter is.
