Hi Josh...this is what I have on reference for PT 109....

"If you are painting the boat from when it was manufactured to before JFK
took command you would paint it as follows:

1. Deck and all upper surfaces: Dark Gray 5D. This can be duplicated with
Floquil 818646 "Navy Dark Gray".

2. Hull: Navy Gray (a). This can be duplicated with Floquil 818650 "Navy
Light Gray".

3. Below Water Line: Coperoid. This can be duplicated using Floquil Boxcar
Red 110074.

If you are painting the boat after JFK took command you would paint it
"MTB Green". This can be duplicated by mixing 4 parts Ocean Green (5-OG)
Floquil 818606 to 1 part Navy Green (5-NG) Floquil 818608. The Bottom was
"Coperoyd" and can be duplicated using Floquil Boxcar Red 110074 (Railroad
Color). "

And see this link also, mate...

Keep Modeling!

I don't know where the person who wrote what you pasted used as research Gunny, but there are several problems with it.

Navy Gray didn't exist until November 1944 at the earliest, and wasn't authorized until February '45.

Photos of PT-109 in August, 1942 show her to be overall gray, most likely 5-O Ocean Gray. I've posted some that I came across to http://www.researcheratlarge.com/Photos/PT109.html

In the third picture, you can definitely see the "109" on the gun pedestal and the fact that the deck and vertical surfaces are the same color (5-D was much darker and would have stood out).
