There's a great site over at: http://u-552.blogspot.com/
The fellow has done a great job with the site and his boat, but he also has posted a 9min video doco of U 552, contemporary (1942). It's a propaganda thing, in German, but some beautiful detail shots. Interesting for both itself and a modeller's POV. Great just to see that hull speed thru the waves, and there is even a dive shot taken with an "unterwasser kamera" as the narrator says. Check it out!

great site and great movie. I would hate to be on a sub out there. I wonder how many men got washed overboard just performing regular day to day duties.

ya, that one guy on starboard, reaching into that access panel with some kind of tire iron/wrench, he almost goes over, ends up butt in well, covered in seawater, barely holding wrench. he had a life jacket on, but big deal! (It also didn't look that rough - was interesting to see a deep but not choppy sea, and that hull be caressed by huge sloping swells passing by as it moved - the ocean or the effect of hull on the water?). Oh, and that one guy girl-running super fast to the CT, he didn't want to get swept off! (can't blame him!)
